Ready

Writing songs is totally new to me. This poem has been set to music by David Belmont, who Mary Fridley introduced me to. Shirley Novak of Charnwood Arts has supported the recording of me reading the poem with the music. I've loved working with them all, and I'm playing with more ideas. Thanks also to Marilyn Ricci, Karin Koller and Rothley Writers for giving invaluable feedback and support. Charlotte Beaver has lent me a keyboard now, to take it all further. This post is coming out on my 78th birthday – I'm excited to discover as much as I can.

I'd love to upload this song for you - I've got it on an MP3, and I'm trying to work out how to share it. If you'd like to hear it, you can email me and I'll send it to you. Meanwhile, I'm posting the words here, and hoping to learn the tech to add it here. Any ideas and help with that are very welcome!

I think there's more to come - this feels like a new container, a new way to communicate.

Ready

I fade in to you, you in to me,

soften to each other, to this what can be

when you and I extend beyond

what’s sure, what’s known –

there’ll be a breath past fear.

Sunset, sunrise, light,

an end to the trodden path.

Every thing comes to this:

a hover, a pause.

I fade in to you, you in to me

soften to each other, to this what can be

when you, and I extend beyond

what’s sure, what’s known –

then there’s a breath past fear.

Welcome to this less-self world of gestures, sighs,

of touch, of shape-free marks – oh the walks, the wanders

I fade in to you, you in to me,

soften to each other, to this what can be

when you, and I extend beyond

what’s sure, and what’s known –

here is a breath past fear.

After the worn-out stories

of scenes and names and signs,

we’ll smile for age now, and for when

each breath gives way to space.

You fade in to me. I in to you,

soften to each other through it all to this

towards all there is to be.

And there’s no way to know we’ll be ready

But we will be ready

You and I.
